I just wrapped up my first cruise ever, and long story short — I had an amazing time.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I landed in Miami and found myself at the cruise port, boarding my first cruise ship. But from the moment I stepped on board, I loved every minute of it. Along the way, I also learned a few things about myself.

What I Learned About Myself
One big realization? An island beach is still just a beach (at least, to me). Don’t get me wrong — it was stunning. I don’t think I’ve ever seen water that clear before, and the view was breathtaking. But at the end of the day, it’s still just a beach. I guess I’ve realized that I enjoy more than just lounging in the sun, drinking, dancing, and watching the waves.
Another thing I’ve learned: loneliness is something that comes from within, and it shouldn’t stop you from experiencing new places or taking adventures you might otherwise miss out on. Don’t let it hold you back from traveling solo—whether that means seeing the world or just exploring the states around you.

Favorite Parts of the Solo Cruise
The cruise food was delicious. I loved having the option to choose between several included restaurants or the buffet, which made every meal enjoyable.
Once on board, we were offered a drink package, and for me, it seemed like a great deal. If individual cruise drinks were around $12 each (or more), and the drink package cost $30 per night, then just three drinks would have already exceeded the package price. So, I decided to go for it — and I’m glad I did!

Best Solo Cruise Excursions: My Highlights
The cruise excursions were the highlight of my trip, and I couldn’t wait to experience them.
After tendering onto Great Stirrup Cay, I boarded a boat to Treasure Island for the “Stingray City and Swimming Pigs” excursion. There, I got to hold and learn about stingrays, hold a conch, and even swim with, hold, and feed the famous pigs—an unforgettable experience!
Then, on Monday, after disembarking in Miami, I joined a tour to the Everglades. We rode an airboat through the wetlands, spotting alligators, fish, and turtles in their natural habitat. The adventure didn’t stop there—the tour also included a fascinating wildlife show where we got up close with a toad and a scorpion and saw both baby and adolescent alligators. We even watched as they fed the massive adult alligators!

Final Thoughts
This first-time cruise experience was incredible, and I’d absolutely do it again. I learned more about myself, enjoyed delicious cruise food, and had the adventure of a lifetime with some unforgettable cruise excursions.
If you’re considering taking your first cruise, my advice is simple: go for it! Whether you’re traveling solo or with friends, there’s so much to experience.
