After years of dreaming about it, I’m finally about to go on my first cruise! In just a few days, I’ll be flying to Miami on Friday and boarding my ship on Saturday. Excitement doesn’t even begin to cover it!
As I count down the days, here are five things I’m doing to make sure I’m fully prepared for my adventure at sea.

Triple-Checking My Reservations
I’m making sure everything is 100% confirmed before I leave — flights, hotel, cruise booking, excursions, and even my shuttle to the port. The last thing I want is to run into any surprises on my way to the ship!
Printing Out All of My Important Documents
Even in the digital age, I like to have physical copies of my essentials — just in case. I’m printing out my cruise tickets, flight details, hotel confirmation, and excursion reservations. I also have a printed copy of my itinerary and emergency contact information for my family. Better safe than scrambling at the last minute!
Studying the Ship’s Layout
Since this is my first time on a cruise, I want to get familiar with the ship before I board. I’m checking out the deck plans so I have an idea of where the restaurants, pools, casino, and key attractions are. That way, I won’t waste time wandering aimlessly when I could be soaking up the fun!
Packing My Day-of Essentials
Packing for a cruise feels different from a regular trip. I’m planning out the perfect travel outfit for my flight and embarkation day, plus figuring out what I need for the island. How many swimsuits should I bring — one or two? I’m also making sure my backpack is ready with everything I’ll need easy access to on day one. Check out my backpack packing list below!
Shifting Into Vacation Mode
Aside from one last work shift, I’m officially in vacation mode! I’m taking time to relax, finalize last-minute plans, and mentally prepare for a few days of digital detox (hello, internet-free cruise!). It’s all about getting into the mindset of enjoying the moment and making the most of this long-awaited trip.
